What can I do to become taller?
If you type the above question in google and hit on search, you may get a list of websites giving you various tips on how to increase your height. But here is what KidsHeath.Org has to say:
"Taking good care of yourself — eating well, exercising regularly, and getting plenty of rest — is the best way to stay healthy and help your body reach its natural potential. There's no magic pill for increasing height. In fact, your genes are the major determinant of how tall you'll be."
The last sentence is so true. No amount of exercise or tablets could make us naturally taller if it's not embedded in our genes. The sooner we understand this, the lesser disappointed we would be. All of us (at least most of us) want to become taller. The one's who are 5'4" want to be 5'9", the ones who are 5'2" want to be at least 5'4" and the list goes on...
I remember my school days when I had to take the bus everyday. My hands would never reach the gripper rod and I always used to dream that some day, I would be holding that rod and standing tall. Luckily for me, I am able to reach that rod today. But because I would need to stretch my hands to hold it, I usually prefer holding the seat rods for grip. :P If someone told me to count the number of times that I wished I was taller, I would definitely need a calculator. I'm pretty sure that right from my 4th standard to maybe 9th standard, I've made this wish at least everyday while standing in the assembly line. Let me see, sometimes I would be the 2nd or 3rd, some days I would even be the 4th or 5th in the line but I never went beyond that. Wonder how many wishes the girl standing in the 1st or 2nd place would have made. :D And yes, how can I forget the times I wished while sitting in the first row in the class. Maybe that's the main reason why I never prefer sitting in the first row now. I must say I was a lot more free after getting out of school. School life was mainly about obeying orders. You got to obey your Principal, your Teachers, your Leaders! I don't even remember I time when I broke a rule to obey what my heart said. And there were so MANY MANY rules. Well, school life was not actually what I was talking about, so I'll blog about that sometime later.
The message that I want to convey is that maybe some of your wishes come true but not all. It all depends on what you'd wished for. If you'd wished that you wanted to be an engineer and you worked hard toward it, I'm sure you would have definitely achieved it. If you'd wished that you wanted to be a dancer, nothing would stop you from becoming one if you worked sincerely towards it. But if you wish something like "I want to become tall" or "I want to become fair" or something even more stupid like "I want to die of age", would it come true? Then what's the use of wishing for such things?
I've tried skipping, standing on toes for a long time, eating food that I felt would increase my height and now when I look back, I feel so foolish. Maybe because I'm really happy being 5. If I wasn't 5, I would never have experienced so many things and I am actually thankful for all those things. Now when I travel by bus and see someone hit their head on the roof of the bus while travelling on bumpy roads because they're tall, I feel lucky. Not that I feel great to see someone suffer but Hurray! Being tall has it's own disadvantages.
My advice to all those who're.. let me call it 5ish.. Never ever have any regrets about it and wearing heels everyday could injure your legs :P Flaunt your height! and if somebody looks down upon you, it's probably because they have to or they'll be looking at thin air. :D You see, not everybody gets to be 5 feet tall or should I say 5 feet short.. Call it anything you wish but be proud of it! :)
